Quality Control

Every latex company has standards for what they will ship to us. We have even stricter standards for what we will ship to our customers. Nonetheless, there will be minor imperfections and variations in natural latex. After all, nature doesn't produce plastic, vinyl or polyester, even though these can look "perfect". We hope that in reading through this site, you will come to understand our confidence in our products and see the beauty of natural latex.

Here's how we ensure that every layer we sell meets Savvy Rest quality standards. We inspect every piece these ways:

  • We measure it in both directions because the layers don't always come in perfect rectangles. We cut or trim any sheet that is off-sized.
  • We hand-test each sheet to be sure that there is consistency in feel from side to side and head to foot.
  • We check for any major discolorations. Minor color variance falls within variations of natural latex.
  • We examine the entire surface to be sure any tears or voids (where the latex baked around an air bubble) are small enough that they will not affect the structural integrity of the mattress. On occasion, we receive a structurally sound layer of natural latex that has a lateral tear longer than our QC standard (3 inches maximum) allows. When feasible, to avoid waste we will patch or repair such a tear or void. This is done with a nontoxic, natural latex-based bonding agent that does not affect the layer's feel or performance.
  • We make sure there is no strong or unusual odor. (Latex is made from rubber tree sap and has a light natural plant scent. Most people won’t notice it and for those who do, it will dissipate over time. If you are concerned about or sensitive to scent, please give us a call.)
