Is It Better To Sleep On Your Back?

Wouldn’t it be nice to have a Yes or No answer! The answer is, Yes and No.

Generally speaking, lying on your back creates the most consistent support for your spine. Your muscles and tissues can relax evenly in all directions. Like a baby, or a kitten napping on its back, you can just lie flat and your musculoskeletal system will be all lined up for restful sleep.

Generally speaking, lying on your back creates the most consistent support for your spine, but there can be other factors to consider.

Better Sleeping Through Chemistry?

Natural latex mattresses can provide benefits that synthetic foam mattresses cannot

Synthetic chemicals are everywhere; they permeate our lives. There are chemicals for just about anything you want to do:

In many ways, we all enjoy “better living through chemistry,” but should that also hold true for our sleep?

A Mother's Story

We know nobody’s really naming their children after a Savvy Rest mattress, but we couldn’t resist the most unusual story we’ve heard so far about why one of our customers needed a new casing! Read on for a touching birth story, generously shared with us by this very happy Mom.

The Circadian Prescription

Book Review

Diet plays a significant role in maintaining a healthy circadian rhythm—the roughly 24-hour cycle that is a key part of the biochemical, physiological and behavioral processes of living beings. So why is the connection between diet and sleep something we seldom hear about?

Probably the best answer is that most of us take sleep for granted and are accustomed to looking for a quick fix for whatever ails us, including our sleep problems.

The links connecting diet, sleep, and our natural daily rhythm might be stronger than you think. A review of Sidney MacDonald Baker's book, The Circadian Prescription.

Multi-Tasking and Sleep

In western culture, the aphorism “More is better” is applied to just about everything. It doesn’t really matter if it’s a healthy something or an addictive something.

If exercise is good, more exercise is better.

If yoga is good, more yoga is better.

If eating nuts is good for you, eating more nuts must be better.

If you love fishing or golf, more fishing or golf would feel better.

Part of the reason we have trouble sleeping is because we are always trying to do more.

Put Your Money In Your Mattress

A well-to-do friend once told us that her dad always said, “To save money, get the best tires and the best mattress.” When you think about it, that makes good sense. Poor-quality tires or a cheaply made mattress can both be disastrous.

We took that pragmatic thinking a few steps further when we developed the Savvy Rest. Not only did we want our mattress to be comfortable, but we wanted it to last a long, long time. And it will.

After all, it's where you and your family spend a tremendous amount of time.

Listening To Your Body

...as you descend into sleep and ascend to awakening

Do you remember when you were 5 or 10 years old and every single night was a perfect night’s sleep? If your sleep is still like that, then count yourself very fortunate. If you’ve lost that boneless feeling of peace and deep rest, however, you can invite it to return.

Ask yourself if you are getting the maximum benefit out of your time at rest, and whether you’d like to consider some new ways to improve it.

Gratitude for my mattress

Most of us know how fortunate we are to have a home, a family, friends, food on the table, people who love us. There are so many things to be thankful for.

There are so many things to be thankful for. What about your mattress?

Sleep is Universal--Ruminations

We think we are so smart. We divide people into groups by age, gender, race, religion, nationality, political party, voting patterns, and on and on. People get advanced degrees in these sorts of divisions. We can learn about how to market to each group, how each demographic changes over time, how to forecast those changes, and so forth.

But when it comes to one thing…everybody does it. Everybody sleeps.

Thoughts on the breadth and universality of sleep.

Yoga and Natural Sleep

There is an interaction between yoga and sleep that is not often talked about. We know about the wonderful benefits of yoga—relaxation, better circulation, increased energy, and so on. We have heard of people getting up early to practice yoga; hopefully, they are also going to bed early so they’re not cutting their sleep short.
