ECO Sleep Solutions

Donna Byrd is the owner of ECO Sleep Solutions in Eugene, Oregon along with her husband Jim. ECO Sleep Solutions opened in September, 2009, featuring Savvy Rest organic mattresses and bedding products.

Donna never planned to become an entrepreneur; but as one thing led to another, the urge to start a business became so strong that there was no other happy choice. Isn’t that the way to live? When that inner voice persists, not answering is not an option.

Originally from California, Donna lived in several parts of the U.S., and along the way married and raised three children. For years, she worked as a real estate closing agent in Charlottesville. As housing slowed and the title business dimmed, she needed another path. Although Donna had never worked in sales, Savvy Rest hired her to work in our local store. Nonetheless, Donna fit in perfectly because of her warmth and genuine desire to help people. There may be slicker folks, but that’s not Donna.

After about eight months, Donna asked how we would feel if she started her own sleep shop after her year was up, carrying Savvy Rest. When someone is so passionate about something, can you do anything other than listen deeply and wish your friend the very best?

They were set to leave in October, 2008; but when the financial crisis hit, she and Jim wisely decided to hold off…but only until the spring of 2009. The economy was still shaky, but the inner voice and their courage wouldn’t let them hold back any longer.

In June 2009 Donna and Jim packed up and drove out to Eugene, Oregon, country cats in tow. They had researched the area meticulously and created detailed plans; but if you’ve ever planned to do anything complicated, and then gone ahead and done it, you know there’s nothing like the real experience.

Jim is an integral part of the creative spirit and the backbone of ECO Sleep Solutions. Trained as a graphic artist and web designer, he also has a strong accounting background. He brings all of those skills along with a lot of faith, fortitude, and good humor to their effort. Jim and Donna complement one another perfectly in their business venture.

ECO Sleep Solutions opened in September 2009 in Eugene. Donna has an incredible talent for decorating, making a space very inviting, and connecting to the community. ECO Sleep Solutions feels warm and welcoming, and no design company could mimic Donna’s homey touch.

We miss all her talents terribly, but we wish Donna and Jim nothing but the greatest success in Eugene, and possibly Portland, later in 2010. Shhh. It’s a secret.
